Haldwani: The Child Rights Protection Commission has ordered an investigation into an NGO named Suchetna, which was operating illegally near Gafur Basti railway station in Haldwani.
On Wednesday, a joint team carried out a surprise inspection at the location. During the visit, several serious issues were found, including low attendance, lack of proper registration, and an unsafe environment for children.
The inspection team included officials from Child Help Nainital, the Child Welfare Committee, Legal Services Authority, Anti-Human Trafficking Cell, and local police. The team was led by Yogesh Rajwar, a member of the Uttarakhand Child Rights Protection Commission.
At the center, five girls and six boys were present. However, the staff could not provide valid documents, and it was discovered that the NGO was not registered under the Juvenile Justice Act. The place where children were sitting was also found to be unsafe.
An employee, Meena Singh, stated that the NGO is being run with funds from Father Pius Missionary.
It was also revealed that most of the children attending the center were already enrolled in schools earlier.
Taking the matter seriously, Yogesh Rajwar has directed the Child Welfare Committee and Child Helpline to complete a detailed investigation and submit a report within two days. The Anti-Human Trafficking Cell has also been asked to investigate the NGO and its management and take strict legal action if needed.
